Jiu-Jitsu School in Coventry

Empowering Coventry since 1996

Teaching martial arts in Coventry since 1996, and a Gracie Barra academy since May 2025.

“I have been a member for over 19 years.”

Founder's message

My father introduced me to martial arts when I was very young, and I fell for it straight away: the art, the discipline and, eventually, the competing.

I was lucky enough to compete on some of the biggest stages in the world, across MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. When I retired, the same fire was still burning. It had simply shifted towards coaching.

We built this academy for more than martial arts. We built it for the honesty Jiu-Jitsu teaches. On the mats there is nowhere to hide. Some days you struggle, some days you fail, but you learn to keep going.

Our youngest member is 3 and our eldest is 72, all learning the same lessons side by side.

We don't stop when things get hard. We find solutions. That's not just a philosophy for Jiu-Jitsu. It's a great motto for life.

Lucky was amazing, answered my questions and even invited me to stay for a session.

Who are we for?

You like being part of a team.

You're happy to be pushed and challenged.

You like clear rules and knowing how to progress.

Who are we not for?

You have something to prove, or a chip on your shoulder.

You care more about winning than your training partners.

You're looking for a shortcut or a magic bullet. Everything here is earned.

Our core values

Three things we live by.

  • A student in a white gi talking with a teammate on the mats

    Equality

Everyone on the mats is equal. We all follow the same rules and get the same respect. Your belt, age or background does not change that.

  • Adult students sitting on the mats and watching a coach

    Loyalty

We show up for each other. We stick with our team on the good days and the hard days.

  • A coach demonstrating a no-gi submission while students watch

    Teamwork

Nobody gets better alone. We work together and help each other improve.

Our vision

A Coventry where confidence is built through challenge.

Where kids develop courage, adults develop composure, and everyone learns to face challenges with confidence.

Through martial arts, we build stronger people, stronger families and a stronger community.

The standards every child learns from day one

  • Respect

Treating people how you would like to be treated.

  • Discipline

Keep showing up. Even when you don't want to.

  • Cooperation

We take turns and let our partner have their go.

  • Brotherhood

We welcome new students and never leave anyone out.

  • Growth

We keep practising until we get a little better.

  • Leadership

We set the example and look out for our team.

  • Inspiration

We try our best so others want to try too.

  • Enjoyment

We train hard and still have fun doing it.

Common questions

How do I know if this academy is right for me?

Come in for a free session and see how it feels.

We are not right for everyone. It is better to find that out before you join.

If you want skill to matter more than size and a team that backs you, you should soon feel at home.

What makes this academy different?

We have a clear purpose. We help students grow in skill and confidence.

We teach students to stand up for themselves without bullying others.

Our staff are DBS-checked and first-aid trained. Our prices are clear, with no hidden extras.

What could we do better?

Our organisation needs work.

We have grown fast, and our messages and booking system have not always kept up.

We are working on it. Please tell us when something is not working.

What do you expect from students?

Show up, respect others and be ready to learn.

You will get things wrong. Keep trying and come back for your next session.

Bring a good attitude, even on hard days, and you will fit in.
